SENSE OF DESIGN IN THE NEW YEAR
SENSE OF DESIGN IN THE NEW YEAR

The design trends of a year get inspired by what have been experienced in the previous year, the expectations for the next year, and the spirit of the current time. The time spent home during the pandemic has made us understand better the importance of interior design. While the requirements for the new normal are being set, the modern interior design has become part of the design with the latest updates. And in 2022, each location will appear with its unique innovations. Unlike the previous years, this year will see the synthesis of colours, shapes and forms, accessories and fabric textures, which will become popular in interior architecture designs.

The New Axis of Design: Sustainability

Sustainability has taken place in our lives as a concept we have become thoroughly familiar with. Therefore, the ideas to make the most of energy and the selection of recyclable and ecological materials will become more common compared to the past. As we get conscious of this concept of sustainability, we have started to question it and look for it everywhere. It is not enough that the exterior structure of a building has been made of sustainable materials. Every single detail will be considered from the decoration to the ratio of the plastic or chemical pain contained in the carpets, from the harmony of the interior architecture with the nature to the use of linen and cotton fabrics; and the materials getting inspired from the nature such as stones and unpolished woods will be a game-changer in respect of sustainable trends. For instance, recycled, tempered glass will be used everywhere irrespective of the design's goal and concept. Glass is technically sustainable and recyclable and also a good alternative aesthetically for the near future. This is because its transparency brings light to the space and ensures a smooth transition between indoor and outdoor spaces. In addition, it is also considered to be suitable for the trend “home recycling” since it is recyclable and paintable for interior decoration materials.

Impact of Art on Luxury Stores

Storification is one of the factors that impacts purchases the most in the luxury retail sector. Visitors choose to buy products with a story and, they prefer spending more time in these types of stores. The stores that launch a new product every year establish a bond with different disciplines thanks to works of art used in the high-end clothing stores. The attractiveness of products in the stores decorated with works of art and their stories is increasing. The payment areas are getting smaller, and the shelf areas are getting more prominent with the advanced payment systems and so that visitors can better see and experience the products. A store is becoming an excellent location to spend time during the shopping. With comfortable seating corners and large changing rooms, customers enjoy shopping in harmony between the luxury retail design and the brand without hurrying up.

Hotel Interior Decoration As Plain As Yin & Yang

Minimalism will be one of the trending concepts in 2022, and architecture will also be affected by this popularity. After the pandemic, visitors will want to see plainer colours and more comfortable areas at a hotel. It is time to say goodbye to locations restricted by dark and exaggerated colours. In order to feel comfortable in indoor locations, less material will be used. There will be no material that makes the space smaller and claustrophobic, such as separators and doors between areas. In suites, the different living spaces such as dining, working, seating areas and bedrooms are separated from one another with furniture or glass. In addition, instead of excessive furniture, plain furniture and arts of work are used to deliver a sense of high quality. And the bond of colours with minimalism is undeniable. The visitors will often see the ranges of certain colours such as beige and grey at the hotels. The visitors will soon experience the hotel suites that are in touch with nature, decorated with plain colours, in harmony with technology and, sustainable.

Prerequisite for Interior Architecture: Office from Everywhere

Different business models such as homeworking and hybrid working have started to be more common. Therefore, the concept of shared offices is becoming popular, and large offices have started to adopt such designs that highlight the theme of common working areas. Many restaurants and cafés, hotels are becoming partial offices. In these places, we will see more frequently such areas, where sound insulation is considered more important compared to other areas, allocated near the windows, allowing for a few people to hold a meeting. Finally, interior architecture is also affected by the domination of technology in people’s lives. The trends are multi-purpose areas, innovative (digitalized) furniture, and remote- and phone-controlled business areas. A working area where lighting, projections, sound systems and other factors are controlled by a phone or a remote controller will make employees' lives easier.
